App State soccer continued its impressive run, defeating East Tennessee State University 2-0 in its final nonconference match of the season. The game, played in Johnson City, Tennessee, extended the Mountaineers' unbeaten streak to seven games, a feat not accomplished by the program in over 15 years. This significant win brings App State's season record to 5-1-2.
The Mountaineers demonstrated an energetic offense early in the first half. Senior midfielder Olivia Simon initiated the scoring in the first eight minutes, finding the bottom right corner of the net for her third goal of the season. Sophomore forward Libby Bermingham provided the assist for Simon's strike. Just nine minutes later, in the 17th minute, junior midfielder Ellie Garrison solidified App State's lead, skillfully striking the ball into the net with only one touch, also marking her third goal of the season. This rapid scoring gave App State a comfortable two-goal advantage.
With an early and commanding lead, the coaching staff opted to manage player fatigue. Three players were substituted off in the 28th minute, followed by two additional changes at the 33rd and 43rd minute marks. These substitutions aimed to provide key players with rest before the second half of play. Despite their strong offensive showing, App State recorded nine fouls in the first half alone, a figure 4.5 times greater than that of ETSU.
The second half saw App State maintain its high pace of play, though they struggled to add to their score. The team earned four corner kicks during the half, but none of these opportunities resulted in shots on target.
