Food Lion has fully restored its website and mobile app services following a cybersecurity issue that had kept its digital platforms offline for a week. The company announced the restoration on Tuesday, October 20, after the services had been unavailable since Tuesday, October 13.
The exact cause of the cybersecurity issue was not immediately disclosed by officials. During the outage, customers were unable to order groceries online through either the website or the mobile application.
To express gratitude for customer patience during the disruption, Food Lion officials announced several in-store and online promotions. Customers can now once again utilize the digital platforms for online grocery orders.
Among the specific offers, Food Lion is providing a $15 discount on Instacart orders of $75 or more. This promotion is valid through October 23 and is applied automatically when customers use a specific link. Through DoorDash, customers can receive $30 off an order of $75 or more, also valid through October 23, by using the promo code 30FOODLION at checkout.
For all MVP customers, Food Lion is offering $10 off a $50 purchase. This particular promotion begins on Wednesday, October 21, and will run through the end of the month. Additionally, free pickup or delivery via Food Lion To Go is available for orders with a minimum of $75. This offer starts on Thursday, October 22, and extends through the end of the month. Officials noted that further savings opportunities are available for ecommerce shoppers, MVP card holders, and participants in the Shop & Earn program.
Greg Finchum, President of Food Lion, released a statement regarding the restoration of services. Finchum expressed the company's satisfaction in having their platforms "back online," acknowledging the crucial role these platforms play in providing an easy, fresh, and affordable shopping experience for customers. He conveyed regret for the inability to provide the expected digital experience over the past several days, stating that the company was "truly sorry" for the inconvenience.
Finchum emphasized the importance of families being able to shop for groceries flexibly and thanked customers for their understanding and support during the service interruption. He also affirmed Food Lion's commitment to earning the continued trust of its customers. The digital services, including the website and mobile app, are now fully operational, allowing customers to resume their online grocery shopping.
