The Appalachian State University men’s golf team recently journeyed to Madison, Wisconsin, to compete in the Badger Invitational. During the multi-day tournament, senior Brody Tidwell emerged as a key performer for the Mountaineers, achieving a notable tie for 16th place among the individual competitors. As a team, App State concluded the invitational in the 17th position overall. This event marked an important early-season competition for the Mountaineer golf program, showcasing the players' developing form and competitive spirit.

Tidwell completed the invitational with an impressive score of 1 under par, totaling 215 strokes across the three rounds. His consistent play was evident through his round scores, which included a 72, followed by a strong 70, and concluding with a 73. These scores collectively helped Tidwell secure what was his second consecutive top-20 finish to open the current season. His consistent performance highlights his pivotal role and leadership on the course for the App State golf squad, setting a positive tone for the team's individual results.

In addition to Tidwell's strong showing, other members of the Mountaineers also delivered solid performances during the invitational. Sophomore James Marriott achieved a tie for 57th place individually, finishing the tournament 6 over par. Senior Matthew McDougall also contributed his efforts, securing a tie for 65th place at 7 over par. Notably, McDougall demonstrated resilience in his final round, where he managed to shoot even par. These individual efforts by Marriott and McDougall were integral to the team's collective showing in Madison.

The App State team, as a whole, navigated the course through three challenging rounds. They posted scores of 301, 291, and 296 across their appearances. This cumulative performance resulted in a total score of 888 strokes for the tournament, placing the Mountaineers at 24 over par collectively. This positioned the team in 17th place among the competing universities. The team's participation and finish at the Badger Invitational add to their competitive experience as they progress through their collegiate golf season.

Looking ahead, the Appalachian State men’s golf team will soon turn its attention to its next competition on the schedule. The Mountaineers are set to participate in the West Bay Collegiate Invitational. This upcoming event is slated for Monday, and the team will undertake a trip to Estero, Florida, where the invitational will be held. The golfers will aim to leverage the lessons and experiences gained from their recent performance in Wisconsin as they prepare for the challenges of their upcoming tournament in Florida.
