Appalachian Chorale presents John Rutter's RequiemTuesday, November 10, 2026, 8:00pm, Rosen Concert Hall
The Appalachian Chorale begins its 51st year of performances with the Requiem written by British composer John Rutter. For 50 years the Appalachian Chorale has combined forces with community singers and Hayes School of Music Students to present choral masterworks to the High Country.
The performance is free and open to the public and no ticket is needed.
About the MusicJohn Rutter’s Requiem, completed in 1985, is one of the most widely performed contemporary settings of the Requiem. Rather than setting the traditional Roman Catholic Requiem Mass in its entirety, Rutter combines portions of the Latin liturgy with English biblical texts, creating a work that moves from grief and uncertainty toward consolation, light, and peace.
Rutter dedicated the Requiem to the memory of his father. Its deeply personal character, memorable melodies, and blend of ancient liturgical texts with familiar English scripture have made the work especially meaningful to performers and audiences for more than four decades.
About the Appalachian ChoraleThe Appalachian Chorale brings together Appalachian State University students and members of the surrounding community to perform significant choral repertoire. Through weekly rehearsals and public performances, the ensemble provides singers from a wide range of musical backgrounds the opportunity to participate in the university’s choral community and to explore major works of the choral tradition.
