App State's Dark Sky Observatory (DSO) invites you to the next Evening at DSO event on Saturday, Oct. 17. The exact time is TBA and will be posted on our secure TouchNet site closer to the date. Evening at DSO is a monthly open-house night held since 2011. During these sessions, guests tour the observatory, learn about the instruments used in our work, and observe several objects through the main telescope. Staff also set up an outdoor telescope and binoculars and use laser pointers to identify features visible in the night sky. These events are ticketed to ensure each visitor has dedicated viewing time, and schedules are announced month-to-month due to planning constraints. Ticket holders should arrive 30 mins. early (DSO is located on Observatory Road in Purlear, NC — about 40 mins. from Boone). The session will begin with a brief presentation about the activities and the objects that will be observed. For details and to purchase tickets, visit our secure TouchNet site. Ticket purchasers should keep an eye on their email and the DSO Facebook page for last-minute decisions in the event of inclement weather.
